First Steps
- Take a standardized test (SAT or ACT).
- Get the best grades possible.
- Visualize your college. If someone had made the perfect college for you, what would it look like; location, size, academic program, student body, extra curricular, campus culture, etc.
- Search the web for colleges that fit your specifications.
- Make a list of the top ten.
- Prioritize your list.
- Visit as many as possible.
- Adjust your list with this new information.
- Get Applications or apply on-line.
- Ask a faculty member (academic subject, junior year) to write a letter for you.
The
Application
1. Look at each application to determine number of recommendations are needed, deadlines, and essay requirements.
2. Find out if additional standardized tests are required.
3. Get an application cover sheet from the college guidance office.
4.
Fill out the cover sheet completely and return it to your college
counselor with the paper application or the on-line application information.
5.
The guidance office will collect all of your recommendations and
include them in the mailing to each college.
6.
The guidance office will include a copy of your transcript in the
packet along with a school profile.
7.
A copy of your paper application and the cover sheet will be placed in
your mailbox when the application is mailed.
8.
The guidance office will follow up with a phone call to the university
making sure that all materials were received.
